Year One
Hello and welcome to Year 1
Autumn 2025
The children have settled into Year 1 well. They have been extremely motivated little learners who absolutely love to be challenged.
Year 1 have enjoyed a topic about dinosaurs. In English they wrote sentences to describe dinosaurs, they learned and performed poems about dinosaurs and also found out many interesting facts. Year 1 have loved exploring our dinosaur museum role play area. Year 1 have worked very hard practising their new phonemes in phonics and have written sentences with beautiful handwriting.

Our work on Dinosaurs linked to our Science which focussed on Animals including humans. They used their scientific enquiry skills of identifying and classifying animals into the following groups; Reptiles, Insects, Amphibians, Birds, Mammals and Fish. We learnt about the characteristics of each group and whether an animal was a Carnivore, Herbivore or an Omnivore.

They also experimented with using their five senses to order smells, classify sounds, identify tastes, describe different objects and tested our eyesight. Year 1 are looking forward to a visit from Safari Stu after half-term.

In History Year 1 have been learning about chronology. They all brought in a baby photo of themselves and drew a picture of each milestone they have reached up until the age of six. We then plotted the pictures on a timeline.

Summer 2025
Year 1 have had a fantastic Summer term!

In science, we have been learning about mini-beasts and their micro-habitats. We enjoyed using our scientific skills of observation to watch caterpillars change into butterflies and our broad beans grow. We have also been exploring our outside environment and identifying wild flowers and birds.
