Enrichment

There's just so much for the children to be involved with. It really is a school preparing them for life outside the classroom.

Parent

Beech Hyde School provides many opportunities for pupils to widen their learning beyond the classroom.

At break and lunchtimes, the children have access to two hard playgrounds, a large grass/ field area, two adventure playgrounds, outdoor table tennis tables and a variety of play equipment. We are proud of the wide range of extracurricular activities available. We have school teams in a wide range of sports, a variety of musical opportunities and lots of other experiences on offer.

Pupils leadership is very strong with Eco-Warriors, School Council, Sports Ambassadors... as well as Year 6 playground leaders and Anti-bullying Ambassadors.

Where it is possible, school trips out are planned to enhance the curriculum and visitors are invited in to bring topics alive.  In Year 6, a residential opportunity is provided for all pupils.

In order to make these experiences possible, it is often necessary to ask for a voluntary parent contribution. If we do not receive enough contributions to cover the cost of the trip/ visit/ club, then it may need to be cancelled. There is help available in the village and beyond for parents who need help with the cost of a school trip/ experience and equipment. No child at Beech Hyde will ever be disadvantaged because their parent/carer can not pay for an activity.

The James Marshall Foundation is a key partner of Beech Hyde and will help families in receipt of benefits or on a low income. Please click on the green link and visit their website for more information and to apply for grants for clubs, equipment, uniform and residential trips online. Please ask Mrs Pleasants in the school office for any help with this as we can apply for you if your child is in receipt of free school meals. Please note the JMF do not fund day trips/visits.

The Wheathampstead Community Group Community – Wheathampstead Community Group (wheathampsteadwcg.org) 07539 176481, and the St Helen's Church Community Fund Support Groups | St. Helens + St. Peters (sth-stp.org), are also able to help with the cost of school trips/ visits and equipment.
